"...Its title (vague smiles) is an appropriate approximation of how your face will appear as they launch into little ditties about jello shots, Reaganomics, and dress-up time. The kids these days, they've got their priorities straight. Fight the monster menace, support the myth busters."
-Peter Koht
Your Music Magazine Issue #34 Oct/Nov 2005
"...Whether you are drifting through the timeless frustrations in "Blame" or pounding through chunkier beats in "Dress Me Up," Monsters will impress you with their insight and versatility. Props to Engineer Dave Egan for creating a professional, finished final product (the missing link on most unsigned bands CD's), and kudos to the band for doin' it right."
Good Times May 25, 2006 "Their sound is an emotionally charged form of garage pop-rock—surprisingly serious stuff, considering the endearing sense of humor displayed on the band’s Web site, manm.uugh.com. The lineup—drums, keyboards, guitar and vocals—is a little unorthodox (read: no bass), but what’s good for The Doors is surely good for a burgeoning Santa Cruz rock trio, right?"
Santa Cruz Sentinel March 17, 2005
Decibel levels pit residents against venues and local bands lose out
"...If you have not heard Monsters are not myths live I feel deeply sorry for you. They have one of the freshest sounds I have heard in a long time so you should definitely cancel your bikini wax and go."
-Fighting Chance
Mesh Magazine "...the record (Vague Smiles) is saturated with potential..."
Your Music Magazine, Idle Hands Report "Monsters are not Myths Opened their set with front man Evan Hamilton singing clever lyrics about T.V., HELL and playing a little harp. I felt the show really took off when Hamilton got on his keyboards. Joined by drummer Dan Boram and guitarist Nick Giordano, the three put on a show that Dr. Watson said he would have rather seen,"Monsters are not Myths open for rush, than Primus." The play list of all original tunes included "Weary Eyes" and other off their cd Vague Smiles. The Monsters proved to me that EMO ROCK can REALLY ROCK!!!!"
